Inter Miami predicted lineup vs Sporting Kansas City today - MLS
- Miami return to the field just three days after their Champions Cup exit to Monterrey
- Herons' 'big four' all started against Rayados in the second leg at Estadio BBVA
- Tata Martino will look to shake things up
After crashing out of the Concacaf Champions Cup, Inter Miami return to action to take on Sporting Kansas City Saturday night at Arrowhead Stadium.
Things didn't exactly go to plan last time out for Miami, as their 3-1 defeat to Monterrey saw them bow out of their first-ever Champions Cup campaign. Miami boss Gerardo 'Tata' Martino included the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets in the starting lineup after all four came off the bench against Colorado Rapids last weekend, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Liga MX giants.
Martino may opt to give Messi and Alba a breather during the first half against SKC, but the likes of Suarez and Busquets might have to start the game given Miami's injuries. David Ruiz and Franco Negri could return to the lineup after missing out against Rayados Wednesday night.
Here's how the Herons could lineup to take on Sporting KC.
Inter Miami predicted lineup vs Sporting Kansas City (4-3-3)
GK: Drake Callender - Martino's starting shot-stopper has no choice but to put in a better performance after his first-half blunder against Rayados.
RB: David Ruiz - The versatile youngster returns to the lineup after missing the Champions Cup second leg due to suspension and will hope to put on a better showing.
CB: Tomas Aviles - Aviles continues to gain experience with another start against Sporting KC.
CB: Nicolas Freire - It was a subpar performance against Monterrey from Freire and he'll need to step up if Miami are to get back on the right track Saturday night.
LB: Franco Negri - As Alba played the full 90 vs Rayados, Negri slots back into the XI to make his second appearance since returning from injury.
CM: Julian Gressel - Martino will call on the former Columbus Crew and Atlanta United player to pull the strings from the middle of the park.
CM: Sergio Busquets - Busquets is set to lead the midfield vs SKC despite playing the full 90 minutes against Monterrey.
CM: Diego Gomez - Gomez will shoulder some of the attacking responsibilities alongside Gressel in the midfield.
RW: Shanyder Borgelin - The Haiti international gets another chance to prove himself out wide and not up front in his preferred role due to Miami's lack of available forwards.
ST: Luis Suarez - As Leo Campana's status remains unknown after he picked up a knock vs Colorado, the veteran Suarez might have to start his second straight game in the span of three days.
LW: Leo Afonso - The young forward looks to add to his first goal scored in his fist start for the club against the Rapids last weekend.
