Ipswich Town were the feel-good story of last season's Championship season, shocking supporters with their incredible ascent to a second-placed finish.

Despite having been in League One the season prior, Ipswich were a model of consistency throughout a thrilling Championship campaign, securing automatic promotion back to the Premier League for the first time since 2001/02.

Having booked their spot in the top flight, Ipswich will want to do more than merely make up the numbers. An exciting but inexperienced team led by the impressive Kieran McKenna have the ability to upset the apple cart, but they will be wary of what's to come given all three newly-promoted sides failed to beat the drop in 2023/24.

Regardless of where they place, it's guaranteed to be a sensational season for the Tractor Boys after such a long spell away from the top table.

Here is 90min's preview of Ipswich Town's 2024/25 Premier League campaign.

Ipswich's performance in the last five seasons

Not only have Ipswich spent none of the last five seasons in the Premier League, they've spent four of the last five campaigns in League One. Having been relegated from the Championship in 2018/19, it took them four years to escape the third tier, eventually doing so in 2022/23 with a second-placed finish.

Their return to the second division was short and sweet, with Ipswich defying expectations to secure an automatic promotion place ahead of the likes of Leeds United and Southampton. In fact, McKenna's men only finished a single point off Championship winners Leicester City.

As is to be expected from a newly-promoted outfit, Ipswich have invested heavily in their squad for the 2024/25 season. As a result, there have been some significant changes to shirt numbers.

Having been on loan last season, Omari Hutchinson will wear the number 20 again following his permanent move to Portman Road, while expensive recruits Liam Delap and Jacob Greaves will don the numbers 19 and 24 respectively.

Ipswich 2024/25 kits

Celebrity supporter Ed Sheeran is once again sponsoring Ipswich's shirts for the 2024/25 season, with Umbro still in charge of kit manufacturing. The home shirt is very prim and proper for their Premier League return, with some lovely pinstripes and deep blue accents.

The away shirt is another gorgeous offering from Umbro, who have gone for a maroon jersey with blue accents. An asymmetrical motif runs across the shirt to give it a kick.

Pink football kits are often popular and that's likely to be the same for Ipswich's third kit for the upcoming campaign, giving nods to the Suffolk sunset.

Ipswich predicted top goalscorer

Without a great deal of Premier League experience across the forward line, it's difficult to know exactly where the goals will come in 2024/25. However, Omari Hutchinson could certainly be a top provider for the Tractor Boys.

Having now signed permanently for £22m from Chelsea, the electric winger can look to build on the ten Championship goals he scored last season. Only two players managed more than him in the second tier for Ipswich and the youngster has gears yet to find as he looks to reach his enormous potential.

Liam Delap and Conor Chaplin will be looking to get plenty, too.

Ipswich predicted Premier League finish

While Ipswich will almost certainly be everyone's second team next season - bar Norwich City supporters, of course - it's still going to be an incredibly tough campaign for the Suffolk side. The jump up in quality is enormous and the Tractor Boys have had little time to prepare for such a leap.

There have been some positive and expensive signings but not many have significant Premier League experience, with Ipswich's squad still looking like the weakest in the division by a considerable distance.

Much like Luton Town last term, good-will is likely not enough to survive. We hope we're wrong.
