Jadon Sancho transfer: Modest fee Chelsea can pay Man Utd to break obligation
- Jadon Sancho joined Chelsea on loan from Man Utd last summer
- The Blues have an obligation to sign the winger for £25m this year
- Chelsea can save huge amount by paying a fee to send him back

Chelsea could save £20m if they trigger a pre-agreed clause and send Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United this summer, according to a report.
The Blues signed Sancho at the end of August in a loan deal which included an obligation to buy the winger for £25m. The mercurial forward has struggled to consistently produce his best form this term, sparking speculation that Chelsea could try to avoid signing him permanently.
Now it has emerged that the initial agreement between the London club and Manchester United included a £5m fixed fee which Chelsea could pay to unilaterally terminate their agreement with Sancho and send him back to Old Trafford, per The Athletic.
The report claims that Sancho and Chelsea still have a "strong" relationship, although that hasn't stopped the Blues from bolstering their attacking options. Geovany Quenda was snapped up from Sporting CP this month and there are plans to add another winger and striker before the end of the summer window.
Sancho hasn't shied away from his underwhelming form this season. "I know I can do better, especially in front of goal," he acknowledged earlier this month. "It's kind of annoying not to score. But I know it will come, [I] just have to take time and be patient."
The former Borussia Dortmund forward boasts just two Premier League goals this season - fewer than Christopher Nkunku, who has made half as many starts and was on the verge of leaving the club during the January transfer window after suffering his own bout of poor performances.
If Chelsea do send Sancho back to Manchester, it remains to be seen how he will be received. The England international had a complete and public breakdown in his relationship with former manager Erik ten Hag, refusing to apologise after effectively calling his coach a liar on social media.
Ten Hag is no longer at the club, but Sancho didn't exactly endear himself to those at Old Trafford after he hailed Marcus Rashford's loan move to Aston Villa in February as "freedom" for his friend.
