Jonathan David has admitted he is interested in making the move to the Premier League following a summer which saw him linked with both Chelsea and Aston Villa.

The Canadian forward was expected to switch Ligue 1 for the Premier League during the summer transfer window after an impressive campaign in France. The 24-year-old scored 26 goals in 47 appearances for Lille. making him one of the most talked about topics in the window.

However, as deadline day loomed, it became clear that David would spend another year at Lille as he entered the final 12 months of his contract.

In an interview with The Athletic, David revealed why his summer plans changed. "It just didn't happen," he said. "There were a couple of offers and we just didn't finish the deal, that's it.

"I spoke to a couple of teams. I spoke with coaches. But ultimately we made the decision to stay. What am I waiting for? I guess now it's easier to say. I'm in the last year of my contract. Eventually my contract is going to run out. So then we'll see. We'll see what happens next year.

"Right now we're speaking with [Lille president Oliver Letang] about a possible extension. We'll see how that goes.

"I'm open to anything. I think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best leagues in the world. And for me it's not the Premier League or bust. I'm open to anything and every league has its challenges."

David has started the 2024/25 campaign on a positive note - scoring three goals in seven appearances. He also featured, and scored, in Canada's 2-1 win over USA in a friendly on Saturday.
