England midfielder Jude Bellingham was visibly distraught at the end of Sunday's Euro 2024 final loss to Spain in Berlin, lashing out at a drinks cooler in the technical area.

Bellingham played the whole match and set up England's equalising goal with a clever touch on the stretch that put the ball directly into Cole Palmer's path to strike it first time.

But following a year full of enormous highs, including La Liga and Champions League glory with Real Madrid, the Ballon d'Or contender let emotion get the better of him in defeat after Mikel Oyarzabal won the final with an 86th-minute goal for Spain.

As Bellingham was making his way to the England bench at the side of the pitch, he furiously kicked the box containing liquid refreshments. But after a few moments spent seemingly composing himself, the 21-year-old went back onto the pitch and made sure he consoled each of his teammates.

Like many of England’s players, Bellingham struggled to consistently perform during the tournament but was responsible for various crucial moments, including his stoppage time overhead kick that forced extra-time against Slovakia in the last 16 and prevented an embarrassing exit.

Had the Three Lions been victorious over a Spain side including a handful of his club colleagues, his bid to become the first Englishman to win the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen in 2001 would have been all but guaranteed. Bellingham has been vying with Real Madrid colleague Vinicius Junior for this year's top individual award in world football, with the Brazilian sharing the same club successes but enduring a hugely disappointing Copa America.

Bellingham falling just short of helping to deliver England's first trophy in men's international football for 58 years failed to put the icing on the cake, but reaching the final still gives him a great chance.
