Jurgen Klopp reveals what he'd do with VAR ahead of Premier League vote

Jurgen Klopp says he would vote against the current implementation of video assistant referees in the Premier League due to the low performance levels of the officials in charge.

The use of VAR has been under constant scrutiny throughout the 2023/24 season due to a number of high-profile errors. One notable clanger came during the Reds' trip to Tottenham Hotspur in September when a Luis Diaz strike was wrongly chalked off during a 2-1 defeat.

Clubs will vote on a proposal to end the use of VAR ahead of the 2024/25 season in an upcoming annual general meeting in June.

Speaking ahead of his final game in charge of the Reds before he steps down as manager, Klopp said: "I don't think they're [Liverpool] voting against VAR, I think they'll vote about how it gets used, because that's definitely not right.

"In the way they do it, I would vote against it, because these people are not able to use it properly.

"I don't think VAR is the problem but the way they use it is the problem. You cannot change the people obviously that is clear so I would say I would vote for scrapping VAR."

In the aftermath of the Spurs defeat earlier in the campaign, Klopp asked for the game to be replayed while Liverpool demanded a "review with full transparency".

Klopp will lead Liverpool out for the final time at Anfield on Sunday when the Reds battle Wolves on the last day of the season. Hopes of a second Premier League title fell away but the German bagged the Carabao Cup earlier in the campaign and leaves having also brought the Champions League and FA Cup trophies to Merseyside during his reign.

Liverpool are third in the table, nine points behind leaders Manchester City and 11 ahead of fourth-placed Aston Villa.
