Kylian Mbappe said joining Real Madrid was 'a dream come true' following confirmation of his summer move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The newly-crowned champions of Europe announced on Monday that Mbappe would be joining them once his Paris Saint-Germain contract runs out this month, bringing an end to one of football's longest transfer sagas.

Mbappe turned down the chance to join Madrid on a free transfer in 2022, choosing to sign a new contract at PSG instead. But now he has decided to take his talents to the Bernabeu this summer.

Taking to social media, Mbappe spoke for the first time since the announcement, revealing how 'excited' he was to finally sign for Madrid.

"A dream come true," Mbappe said. "So happy and proud to join the club of my dream. Nobody can understand how excited I am right now.

"Can’t wait to see you, Madridistas, and thanks for your unbelievable support. Hala Madrid!"

Mbappe leaves PSG as the club's all-time leading scorer with a whopping 256 goals in only 308 matches for the French giants. He also helped them win 15 trophies across his seven-year stay at Parc des Princes, though was unable to bring the UEFA Champions League trophy to Paris.

Madrid, on the other hand, secured their 15th Champions League at the weekend with a 2-0 victory against Borussia Dortmund in this season's final at Wembley - their sixth European title in the last ten years alone. Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior scored for Los Blancos on the night.

Mbappe becomes the third major free-agent signing to put pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement with Madrid in recent years, with defenders David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger also joining the club at the end of their previous deals.
