Kylian Mbappe takes €55m legal action against PSG - report

Kylian Mbappe has taken legal action against former employers Paris Saint-Germain as he seeks the €55m sum he believes is owed to him, reports have revealed.

Mbappe left PSG on a free transfer this summer and took his talents to Real Madrid, but has been embroiled in a dispute with his old club over what he believes are unpaid wages and loyalty bonuses from his time in Paris.

Specifically, Mbappe is arguing that he was not paid for the final three months of his PSG career, while also insisting he is yet to receive portions of two separate bonus payments in his contract.

As first revealed by Le Monde, Mbappe has now ordered his representatives to make contact with the legal department of the governing body of French football, the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), as well as UEFA, in search of the €55m sum.

It was revealed in June that Mbappe's representatives had warned PSG that they would pursue legal action. The French club insisted "negotiations were ongoing" but, with no resolution found as of yet, the Madrid forward has chosen to take things to the next level.

Earlier this month, Mbappe's camp contacted the LFP over the unpaid wages, highlighting the law which states clubs must pay their monthly salaries no later than the final day of the calendar month in question.

While the absence of payment from the three months in question may seem like a cut-and-dry conclusion, PSG continue to argue that the terms of Mbappe's agreement with the club were altered when he made it clear he planned to leave the club on a free transfer.

Mbappe did strike an agreement with PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi at the start of the 2023/24 season after being frozen out of the team. PSG wanted to sell the forward before they risked losing him for free but Mbappe was eventually welcomed back into the team after agreeing to forgo some of the money owed to him if he did leave on a free.

PSG insist they do not owe the €55m to Mbappe because of the terms of the new arrangement, and so the LFP and UEFA could now decide the outcome of this disagreement.
