Kylian Mbappe has claimed 'a page is turning' ahead of his departure from Paris Saint-Germain and expected move to Real Madrid.
The forward confirmed last Friday that he would not renew his expiring PSG contract and instead will leave the club as a free agent this summer. 90min understands while the French champions will not recoup a transfer fee, they have budgeted at least an extra €200m thanks to a series of complicated agreements in Mbappe's deal that saw him forfeit various bonuses and add-ons.
Mbappe was named the Ligue 1 Player of the Year for a record fifth time earlier this week, and during his acceptance speech, he spoke of the excitement of his next chapter, but again stopped short of revealing Madrid as his destination.
"A page is turning," Mbappe said. "A chapter in my life is closing. You can prepare all you want, but when the time comes, it still means something. Ligue 1 has always had a special place in my life. I have always honoured and tried to be a worthy representative of the league, to bring it to the top level.
"I'll leave with my head held high, having done everything I could but I couldn't have done it without the clubs that I played for, firstly AS Monaco and then of course PSG.
"I'm going to miss it. A page is turning in my life. I'm very excited by what is to come but that is something else. Today, I am here to say thank you and repay the trust that I have been shown. It has been a long path and I am very happy to have played a part in the league's history."
Mbappe's final home game for PSG came on Sunday in a surprise 3-1 loss to Toulouse. He will cap off his spell at the club with trips to Nice and Metz in Ligue 1 before taking on Lyon in the Coupe de France final.
