The agent of Barcelona winger Lamine Yamal has urged the club to renegotiate the terms of his current contract after his dazzling form at Euro 2024, a report has revealed.

Yamal, who celebrated his 17th birthday while away with Spain, was named Euro 2024's Young Player of the Tournament and had a real shot at winning the senior award as well after racking up four assists en route to winning the trophy.

According to SPORT, Yamal's agent Jorge Mendes is wasting little time in ensuring the teenage sensation is paid the salary his performances over the past 12 months have merited.

Yamal still has two years left to run on the contract he signed last summer, when Barca were limited in what they could offer to a player under 18 years old.

Negotiations at the time also yielded a verbal agreement over a new four-year contract which would kick in once Yamal turns 18 and bring about a significant jump in salary and the number of bonuses available to the young winger.

Mendes is said to be challenging Barca to bring forward the terms of that second contract to hand Yamal the sort of income his status as one of the team's most important players deserves.

Formal negotiations have not yet been scheduled but Barca are not expected to have any issue with Mendes' demands, well aware that Yamal has already exceeded the lofty expectations put on him when he signed his first senior contract.

There will not be a new contract for Yamal, who is still slated to sign his next four-year deal in 2026, but the terms of that agreement will now be brought forwards.

Mendes wants Barca to treat Yamal in the same way they behaved towards Lionel Messi, who signed five contracts before the age of 22 as Barca kept rewarding him for his ever-increasing performances.
