Leicester agree fee 'in excess of £20m' for Tottenham midfielder

Leicester City are closing in on the signing of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Oliver Skipp, a report has claimed.

The Foxes are strengthening their squad for their first season back in the Premier League following promotion last term, while the need for a midfielder was heightened by the £30m sale of Kieran Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea.

They have already welcomed in four players on permanent deals in Abdul Fatawu, Michael Golding, Bobby Decordova-Reid and Caleb Okoli, while Facundo Buonanotte has joined on loan.

David Ornstein of The Athletic now reports that Skipp will become their sixth signing of the summer and he will undergo a medical on Sunday.

Skipp's move to Leicester could be confirmed before they play his current club Spurs on Monday night, though he would not be able to play having missed the registration deadline for gameweek one.

Leicester will pay a fee of at least £20m in order to sign Skipp, who has been at Tottenham since 2008 and is one of their last remaining homegrown players in the senior squad.

The 23-year-old has been used sparingly in pre-season and fell down the Tottenham pecking order during the 2023/24 campaign, despite beginning the season as a starter under Ange Postecoglou. By the end of Postecoglou's debut season in north London, Skipp was being used as an inverted left wing-back.

Skipp is set to reunite with fellow Tottenham academy graduate Harry Winks, who signed for Leicester last summer at the time of James Maddison's move in the other direction.

While Spurs are entering a second season under Postecoglou, Leicester have also had to deal with a change in the dugout after manager Enzo Maresca left for Chelsea. He has since been replaced by former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper.
