Ex-Reims boss Amandine Miquel has been named as the new manager of Leicester City Women.

The appointment concludes a long and extensive search for a new manager following the sacking of Willie Kirk back in March. The former coach was dismissed following an internal investigation into allegations regarding a relationship with a player.

Jennifer Foster took charge as interim until the end of the 2023/24 season, securing a tenth-placed finish. The Foxes had looked like a renewed side ready to take the WSL by storm in the early stages of the campaign, but they gradually fell down the standings and ended with just four wins from 22.

Miquel, 40, arrives from French side Stade de Reims, the side she took charge of in 2017 and helped achieve promotion to the top flight in 2019. Last season, her side finished fourth in Division 1 Feminine, behind only Lyon, Paris Saint-Germain and Paris FC.

"I am very excited for this new project," Miquel told the club website. "Right now, the WSL is one of the best leagues in the world and it's the place to be. I am very pleased that I have the opportunity to be here.

"It will be amazing to manage in such a nice stadium and to have the fans supporting the women's game. I want to get the best out of every player and help the team climb the table. We want to make our fans proud of their team.

"For any manager, the idea is to take the team to the next level. There is big potential here with this team and the Club has equally ambitious objectives. I definitely have my own footballing philosophy. Football has to be a show, we have to be ambitious, and we want to play offensive football. It's important for everyone to have that fighting spirit."
