Liverpool have been dealt a considerable pre-season blow following news that a pre-Euro 2024 injury will keep Andrew Robertson sidelined for the next couple of weeks.

Robertson is part of the Liverpool squad that has travelled to the United States for summer tour games against Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United. But the Scotland captain has been ruled out of featuring in any of the arranged friendlies due to a lingering problem.

He isn't likely to be ready to play until after Liverpool have returned home early next month.

"He is not fully fit yet. But we are expecting him in the end of the tour – maybe just after the tour – to be fully fit again," manager Arne Slot explained upon arriving in Pittsburgh.

"He took a small injury into the Euros and afterwards he had to recover from that after playing those games. But we will expect him back after our tour – but he joined us over here."

Robertson was managing a troublesome ankle issue prior to Euro 2024 and was a doubt for Scotland's opening game of the tournament against hosts Germany after limping out of a training session just days earlier. But the 30-year-old sufficiently recovered to play almost every minute across his country's group fixtures, ultimately crashing out of the tournament early.

There appears a chance that Robertson could be available for Liverpool's curtain-raising friendly against Sevilla at Anfield on 11 August, six days before their Premier League campaign begins.

Overall, Robertson missed a considerable number of games last season, totalling 30 appearances in all competitions. It was his lowest in a campaign since his first year with the Reds in 2017/18, before he had established himself as a regular in the team. That was mostly the result of a shoulder injury that ruled the left-back out of action for around three months in autumn and winter.

The versatile Joe Gomez was often the go-to option in Robertson's absence.
