Liverpool have confirmed they have reached an agreement to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will join the club next summer.
The Reds are yet to bolster Arne Slot's squad this summer but have instead set their sights on wrapping up a deal for Mamardashvili, who is being lined up as the long-term replacement for Brazil international Alisson.
After weeks of negotiations, Liverpool have now confirmed they have struck a deal to sign Mamardashvili, who will remain with Valencia for the remainder of this season before moving to Anfield in 2025.
Statements from both clubs do not mention any loan, instead stressing that Mamardashvili will simply join Liverpool permanently next year.
The Athletic, however, describe the deal as a loan.
Alisson has already given his public backing to the move, admitting he understands Liverpool's desire to plan for the future.
Mamardashvili, who turns 24 in September, has already made over 100 appearances for Valencia and is widely hailed as one of the top young goalkeepers in the world. His stock was boosted even further this summer with some excellent showings for Georgia at Euro 2024.
Meanwhile, Caoimhin Kelleher remains Liverpool's current backup, although the 25-year-old has openly admitted he is ready to leave Anfield in search of a starting role after years behind Alisson in the pecking order.
Kelleher, whose contract is due to expire in 2026, has been linked with a handful of Premier League teams but is yet to be the subject of any concrete interest.
