Liverpool confirm Federico Chiesa signing from Juventus

- 26-year-old winger shot to fame during Azzurri's glorious Euro 2020 campaign
- Barcelona were also interested in the former Fiorentina star
Liverpool have announced the signing of Juventus and Italy winger Federico Chiesa for an initial £11m fee.
The Azzurri flier shot to fame during his nation's successful Euro 2020 campaign, where he impressed fans with his direct running and quality in the final third.
However, he failed to agree a new contract with Juve last season and was told over the summer he would not be kept on by incoming manager Thiago Motta, sparking the interest of a number of Premier League sides.
The Reds quickly agreed a fee with the Serie A giants after making their admiration of the forward known and have now made the transfer official, beating La Liga outfit Barcelona to Chiesa's signature.
He told the club's website: "I'm so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, 'Do you want to join Liverpool?' - and the coach called me - I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans.
"So, I'm so happy and I can't wait to get started."
Barca were said to be confident of beating Liverpool to Chiesa, who scored nine goals in the Italian top flight last season, but the 'bureaucratic obstacles' they were concerned about pushed them out of the running.
Juve have overhauled their squad in drastic fashion this summer, with former first-team regulars Adrien Rabiot, Moise Kean and Alex Sandro all leaving permanently. Youngster Samuel Iling-Junior has joined Aston Villa, Daniele Rugani has signed for Ajax on loan and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has retired.
In terms of incoming arrivals, Douglas Luiz, Michele Di Gregorio, Khephren Thuram, Juan Cabal, Pierre Kalulu, Nicolas Gonzalez, Francisco Conceicao and Teun Koopmeiners have all touched down at the Allianz Stadium.
