The long-running saga of Mohamed Salah's Liverpool future has finally been concluded.

The Premier League leaders triumphantly confirmed on Friday morning that Salah had put pen to paper on a new deal two days after multiple reports claimed that a decision was on the verge of completion.

Liverpool will be able to count upon the services of the club's third all-time top scorer for another two years after agreeing a deal which stretches to the summer of 2027.

Salah was thought to be the subject of widespread interest from across the footballing landscape. Among Europe's elite, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain were both tipped to snap up the 32-year-old on a free transfer this summer, while the Saudi Pro League has acted as a consistent admirer for multiple years.

The immensely wealthy state-backed clubs in Saudi Arabia were reportedly willing to make Salah the second-highest paid player on the planet. Yet, Liverpool ultimately won the battle to hang on to their perennial top scorer.

"Of course I'm very excited," Salah told Liverpool's website. "We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football.

"It's great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it's going to be ten. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.

"I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we'll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies."
