Liverpool injuries: Every player ruled out of Europa League clash vs Atalanta
- Liverpool face Atalanta in the Europa League quarter-final second leg
- Reds must overturn a three-goal deficit from the first leg at Anfield last week
- Injuries are starting to ease at a key time for Jurgen Klopp and his team
Liverpool will need all the help they can get when they travel to Bergamo to face Atalanta this Thursday.
The Reds lost 3-0 in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final and hopes of ending Jurgen Klopp's final season in charge with another major European trophy look incredibly slim.
The Merseyside club have lost their last two matches without finding the back of the net, and will need nothing less than perfection to book their spot in the Europa League final four midweek.
However, the only positive news for Klopp is that he has seen a number of his key first-team stars return to the fold in recent weeks after significant injury layoffs, although there are still some important players on the sidelines for Liverpool.
Here is every Liverpool player unavailable for the trip to Italy on Thursday,
Goalkeepers & defenders
The only positive Liverpool could take from their 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace last Sunday was the return of goalkeeper Alisson and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. The former started the match and looked sharp having been sidelined for over two months.
Alexander-Arnold was used from the bench against the Eagles but was thrust into the action earlier than expected after Conor Bradley was withdrawn with an ankle injury. The Northern Irishman will be unavailable this Thursday and is facing a few weeks out of action.
The only other defensive absentee for Liverpool is Joel Matip, who the Reds have had to cope without since early December. The centre-back tore his ACL in a 4-3 victory over Fulham at the end of 2023, and he may have played his final game for the club with his contract expiring this summer.
Midfielders
Curtis Jones has returned from an ankle injury in recent weeks and has slowly built up his fitness, although he was guilty of spurning some promising chances against Palace at the weekend.
Stefan Bajcetic is yet to feature for the first-team since September but is now in full training, even making the bench for the first leg with Atalanta and featuring in a Premier League 2 match last Friday.
That means the only sidelined midfielder is Thiago, who has been missing since picking up yet another long-term injury against Arsenal in early February. Much like Matip, he is unlikely to feature again this season and has probably played his final game for the Reds with his contract also expiring.
Forwards
Liverpool do have all their senior forwards fit and available at present, although none were able to find the back of the net against Atalanta or Palace in recent matches. Jurgen Klopp may rotate a few of his attackers on Thursday, with Diogo Jota perhaps being handed a first start since mid-February.
The Reds' only unavailable attacker is young winger Ben Doak, who is still recovering from surgery he underwent earlier this season. The Scot may feature before the end of the campaign, but is unlikely to represent the first team again this term.
