Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister will miss the club's next two matches in the Premier League and Champions League due to suspension.

It means Mac Allister will not be available for Saturday lunchtime's Merseyside derby against Everton at Goodison Park, likely to be the last ever at the famous stadium unless the clubs are drawn together in an FA Cup tie there later in the season.

Mac Allister will then also sit out the European trip to Girona three days later.

The 2022 World Cup winner has coincidentally picked up two individual one-match bans in both domestic and European competition.

A yellow card 20 minutes into Wednesday night's 3-3 draw against Newcastle United was Mac Allister's fifth in the Premier League this season. His first four came in successive matches against Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion in October and November. The punishment for yellow card accumulation is an automatic suspension for the next domestic game.

But Mac Allister had already been slapped by a similar ban by UEFA following his third yellow card of the season in the Champions League, coming against Real Madrid last week. Earlier bookings against AC Milan and RB Leipzig mean a one-game European ban must also be served.

Mac Allister, now into his second season with Liverpool, has been a key part of Arne Slot's team. The Argentine has started 12 of 14 Premier League games, as well as all five in the Champions League so far. No players have made more appearances and only Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and regular central midfield partner Ryan Gravenberch have been on the pitch for more minutes.

Mac Allister will be eligible to return to action when Liverpool host Fulham in the Premier League on 14 December.
