Liverpool have made an impressive start to the 2024/25 season under Arne Slot and will be aiming to keep the good vibes alive when they visit RB Leipzig on Wednesday in the Champions League.

The Reds maintained their status as Premier League leaders over the weekend with a significant win at home to Chelsea and their title credentials will be tested next Sunday when they travel to face last season's runners-up Arsenal. Resting players for the journey to north London may enter Slot's mind ahead of the Leipzig clash.

Liverpool's Champions League record remains perfect so far with two victories at the beginning of the recently reformatted competition. Italian opposition in the form of AC Milan and Bologna have been unable to match the six-time European Cup winners.

Injuries are starting to cause Slot a few selection headaches ahead of the busy winter fixture list and the likes of Alisson, Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott will all miss the trip to Germany.

Here is how Liverpool could lineup on matchday three in the Champions League.

GK: Caoimhin Kelleher - Alisson's absence is certainly unwanted but fortunately Liverpool boast one of the strongest back-up goalkeepers in the Premier League. The Irishman has proved his worth in recent seasons when filling in for his Brazilian team-mate.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold - Liverpool's chief creator has not been quite as influential under Slot as he was during his pomp under Jurgen Klopp. RB Leipzig and their array of sparkling forwards will be keen to test his defensive acumen.

CB: Ibrahima Konate - Konate often goes under the radar partnering the imperious Virgil van Dijk but his form has been impressive at the beginning of a new era. The 25-year-old was an RB Leipzig player before making the move to Anfield and will find himself in familiar surroundings.

CB: Virgil van Dijk - Another strong showing from Liverpool's skipper at the weekend helped keep an in-form Chelsea side relatively quiet. The likes of Lois Openda, Benjamin Sesko and compatriot Xavi Simons will be eager to unnerve the usually unflappable centre-half - who is discussing a new Anfield contract.

LB: Andy Robertson - The Scotsman is struggling to go through the gears this season and doesn't offer quite the same attacking threat as he once did. He's still a steady performer defensively, though.

DM: Curtis Jones - Undoubtedly Liverpool's most influential contributor against Chelsea, winning a penalty and scoring the decisive goal after the restart. An exceptional display should allow Ryan Gravenberch a well-earned rest in Leipzig.

DM: Alexis Mac Allister - Mac Allister was only used as a substitute against Chelsea after some slight fitness issues over recent weeks but he should return to the starting XI midweek. The former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder rarely strays below a seven out of ten performance.

AM: Dominik Szoboszlai - Another former RB Leipzig man, Szoboszlai has been much improved at the start of the new term. He will be keen to punish his former employers on Wednesday after scoring in the 3-1 opening victory over Milan.

RW: Mohamed Salah - Salah has scored in five of his last six games for club and country, including against Bologna in Liverpool's most recent European outing. The 32-year-old is still dazzling on Merseyside.

ST: Darwin Nunez - Nunez did an excellent defensive job after replacing the injured Diogo Jota against Chelsea but there is much improvement still needed from the fiery South American. He's yet to find his feet under a new coach.

LW: Luis Diaz - The long journey from Colombia to England ensured that Diaz wasn't sharp enough to start against Chelsea, replaced by the lively Cody Gakpo. However, the indefatigable winger should return to the XI and will be aiming to rediscover his goalscoring touch in Germany.
