Liverpool predictions 2024/25: Premier League finish, top goalscorer and season preview
- Liverpool head into new season without Jurgen Klopp for first time since 2015
- Arne Slot appointed as successor to legendary manager
- How will the Reds fare in 2024/25?
By Sean Walsh
Liverpool's 2024/25 season will be among the most intriguing in the entire Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp is gone, and into his shoes has stepped Arne Slot. The ex-Feyenoord boss has quite the job on his hands succeeding greatness at Anfield.
The Reds mounted a title charge last year only to fall away during the last couple of months of the campaign, and it would take an almighty effort to keep such pace with Arsenal and Manchester City again.
But could they still do it anyway?
Here's 90min's season preview of Liverpool's 2024/25 campaign.
Liverpool's performance in the last five seasons
The last five years of the Klopp era was when Liverpool rediscovered their mojo as a cup team, while they only finished outside the top three on one occasion.
Last season, the Reds went in search of a quadruple after winning the EFL Cup, but a sharp decline in form saw them fall short in their other three competitions.
That was, at least, a stark improvement on a miserable 2022/23 campaign in which they came fifth and were dumped out in the early stages of every cup.

Liverpool 2024/25 squad numbers
There haven't been any major announcements to this point on Liverpool players changing shirt numbers for the new season, but you'd expect some of their younger stars to get upgrades.
Jarell Quansah (78) and Conor Bradley (84) seem primed to take lower numbers before the start of the campaign, while Trey Nyoni (98) is also a contender to come down following a fine pre-season.

Liverpool predicted top goalscorer
Given he's finished as Liverpool's top scorer for each of the last seven season, we're going to hazard a guess and say Mohamed Salah is likely to be their star bagsman in 2024/25.
The Reds do have a wealth of attacking options besides him ready to chip in with goals, too. Big things are expected of Cody Gakpo following his fine Euro 2024 showings with the Netherlands, while if it's ever going to happen for Darwin Nunez at Anfield, this probably has to be the season.
Diogo Jota will score aplenty when he's fit and available, but question marks will always linger over his ability to simply stay on the pitch. Luis Diaz has also looked sharp in pre-season and may have a point to prove following constant speculation over an exit.
Liverpool predicted Premier League finish
Listen, 90min's full predictions don't come out until the end of the week, but you can be let in on a little secret - every writer and editor who contributed to the consensus table had Liverpool in the exact same position.
Are the Reds good enough to topple the two title contenders? Probably not, all things considered. But are they as bad as the rest of the chasing pack? Again, it's doubtful.
They settle into third place nicely, and that should be seen as a success for Slot given how the tumultuous state other clubs collapse into when a legendary, cerebral manager leaves. This year is about consolidation, and Liverpool have our backing to find that.
