Liverpool have added Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich to their list of summer transfer targets, a report has claimed.

Kimmich is now in the final six months of his contract and is free to talk with clubs overseas, with both Barcelona and Manchester City regularly named as interested parties.

Now, however, SportBild state Liverpool have joined the race for Kimmich's signature. Arne Slot wanted a new defensive midfielder during the summer and was linked with the Bayern maestro back then, only to put his faith in Ryan Gravenberch instead.

Gravenberch has flourished with more minutes but there is a recognition that Liverpool still need a new midfield signing, particularly if Wataru Endo departs in the coming months.

During the summer, Kimmich was said to have drawn up a list of five potential landing spots, with Liverpool featuring alongside Arsenal, Man City, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Bayern have not given up hope of retaining Kimmich, with club officials publicly urging the 29-year-old to etch his name in the club's history books by extending his stay at the Allianz Arena, but he has not yet made a decision on his future.

Kimmich confirmed in early December that he wanted an early resolution to his future, vowing not to wait until the summer to sign his next deal.
