Liverpool have rejected an offer from PSV Eindhoven for centre-back Sepp van den Berg, reports have revealed.

Van den Berg, who joined Liverpool back in 2019, returned from an impressive loan with Mainz this summer and immediately made it clear that he wanted to leave the club permanently this summer after a series of broken promises.

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot, however, has chosen to involve Van den Berg in his pre-season tour and handed his fellow Dutchman over an hour in the 1-0 victory over Real Betis.

Fabrizio Romano revealed that PSV Eindhoven had failed with a bid which he stated was worth €10m (£8.4m). Eindhovens Dagblag, however, put that offer at slightly over €12m (£10.1m).

Liverpool are believed to want between £20m and £25m to sell Van den Berg, who insisted earlier this summer that such a figure was unreasonable and accused Liverpool of 'hindering' his future.

While away with Liverpool for pre-season, Van den Berg once again reiterated his concerns over his price tag.

"I know in today's market [high prices] will happen," he said. "But the price they want for me? Hmm...

"Liverpool may think it is right as I had a good season. If they want £20-£25m, that is a lot more. Hopefully we can find a way. Maybe I stay, maybe I go.

"The first reaction from me is that it was quite high! It is also a compliment. But it makes it difficult, £20m is majorly high."

Slot is believed to be keen on taking a closer look at Van den Berg this summer and wants to block an exit at this point, but the defender has made it clear that he is looking to continue his career away from Anfield.
