Liverpool vs Crystal Palace: The results of their last 10 meetings
- Liverpool and Crystal Palace are regular competitors in the Premier League
- This fixture has a surprising tendency to be dramatic
- The Reds have dominated recent history between the two clubs
Liverpool vs Crystal Palace may not be the first fixture that springs to mind when you think of the Premier League, but it's a game that tends to inexplicably serve up drama one way or the other.
Whether it be the famous 'Crystanbul' clash during the 2013/14 campaign or the surprise seven-goal thriller during the 1990 FA Cup semi-final, this match-up tends to be fuelled by goals and the unexpected.
While Liverpool have dominated this fixture over the years, the Eagles have had their fair share of amazing moments to celebrate, both at Selhurst Park and Anfield.
Here are the results of the last ten meetings between the two sides.
Crystal Palace 1-2 Liverpool - December 2023
Speaking of drama, there was plenty to go around during the first meeting between Crystal Palace and Liverpool in the 2023/24 season. The clash seemed to be drifting into nothingness as the half-time whistle was blown with the game goalless, but the entertainment was served up after the restart.
Jarell Quansah's late challenge on Jean-Philippe Mateta in the penalty area saw Palace awarded a spot kick just before the hour mark after a lengthy VAR check, with the Frenchman slotting home with little fuss from 12 yards.
However, two quick-fire yellow cards for Jordan Ayew saw the hosts somewhat harshly reduced to ten men with 75 minutes played, Liverpool taking advantage just a minute later as Mohamed Salah netted his 200th goal for the Reds.
Palace held firm heading into the final minutes of the game but an excellent strike from Harvey Elliott in stoppage time, who transformed the game from the bench, secured all three points for the Reds
Crystal Palace 0-0 Liverpool - February 2023
Okay, maybe there isn't always drama when these two meet, as exemplified by the goalless draw between the sides back in February 2023.
Liverpool were still in the hunt for a top four finish after a woeful first half of the 2022/23 season when they travelled to Patrick Vieira's mid-table Palace. Despite dominating the ball and having a fair few efforts on goal, the Reds seldom tested an Eagles side that were more than happy with a point.
As a result, the game ended in a bore draw at Selhurst Park, with little to write home about.
Liverpool 1-1 Crystal Palace - August 2022
This game should have been remembered for Luis Diaz's excellent strike, a goal that rescued a point for Liverpool just two games into the 2022/23 campaign. The Colombian cut inside, glided ast several challenges and arrowed a powerful effort into the top corner from the edge of the area, cancelling out Wilfried Zaha's first-half effort.
However, this match is only remembered for Darwin Nunez, the Liverpool forward sent off for headbutting Palace defender Joachim Andersen on his first ever Anfield start. The Uruguayan slinked off after a moment of madness, with Diaz sparing his teammate's blushes following his sensational strike.
Crystal Palace 1-3 Liverpool - January 2022
Still in the hunt for the Premier League title, Liverpool knew they needed all three points from their trip to Selhurst Park in January of the 2021/22 campaign. That's exactly what they got, although in slightly controversial circumstances.
There was nothing contentious about Virgil van Dijk's bullet header after just eight minutes that gave the Reds the lead, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's second arguably should have been ruled out for Roberto Firmino being offside in the build-up.
Odsonne Edouard pulled one back after the break but Diogo Jota was awarded a soft penalty at the other end just before stoppage time, with Fabinho coolly converting the subsequent spot kick to secure victory.
Liverpool 3-0 Crystal Palace - September 2021
Liverpool were made to work hard at Selhurst Park later in the season, but their first meeting with Palace during the 2021/22 campaign was incredibly straightforward.
After a scare in which Alisson clawed a looping Palace effort on to the post, Liverpool dominated, taking the lead before the break when Sadio Mane converted a rebound following a home corner. The second came with 12 minutes to play and it was another corner that proved decisive, Salah rifling home at the far post after a flick-on.
It was also, you guessed it, a corner that led to the third, Naby Keita slamming a home a sensational volley from the edge of the area after Liverpool's initial delivery into the box had been cleared.
