Manchester City have been left sweating over the fitness of striker Erling Haaland after he limped off injured late in Saturday's 4-0 victory over Newcastle United.

January signing Omar Marmoush took the headlines with three goals against the Magpies, but a perfect afternoon ended on a sour note when Haaland fell to the ground holding his knee after appearing to tweak it.

With 88 minutes on the clock, the decision was made to withdraw Haaland, whose condition will now be monitored ahead of Wednesday's Champions League play-off second leg against Real Madrid, who hold a 3-2 advantage from the first leg.

Fans will eagerly await an official update on Haaland's condition, but the striker at least looked comfortable after the game as he walked over to applaud the fans and shake the hands of City's staff members.

City could do with some positive injury news to match that revealed by Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti in the build-up to the game.

Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Lucas Vazquez are all expected to return to Madrid's defensive line for Wednesday's game, so Pep Guardiola will hope to have his strongest possible side available in his attempt to seal a memorable comeback victory.
