Arsenal could only muster a point at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, with a string of excellent David Raya saves preventing Manchester United from snatching an impressive victory.

Arsenal were dominant early and their territorial superiority refused to cease for the first half. However, the efficiency from Tuesday night was nowhere to be seen as they tried without much success to penetrate a compact United defence.

Mikel Merino came close with an early effort which dragged just wide of Andre Onana's post, while Leandro Trossard thumped a fierce effort wide from the edge of the box after Martin Odegaard forced Onana into a simple save.

United's threat was close to nil in the opening period, yet a divine Bruno Fernandes free-kick meant they entered half-time with a 1-0 lead.

The hosts were emboldened by their advantage and enjoyed the better of it after the restart. Having struggled to get near the Arsenal box in the opening period, Raya was forced into an outrageous save to deny Noussair Mazraoui before the Spaniard smothered Joshua Zirkzee's cute close-range flick.

Raya's work at the start of the second half kept Arsenal in the game, and after a period of rather stale Gunners pressure, Declan Rice restored parity with an excellent strike following some tidy footwork in the box from Jurrien Timber.

Chances then arrived for both teams to win it in the closing stages, with the best of them falling to Fernandes in stoppage time. The opening goalscorer, however, was kept out by another superb Raya save to ensure the spoils were shared at the Theatre of Dreams.
