Manchester United have given fans a reason to be excited over Amad Diallo as the winger continues his recovery from an ankle injury he suffered back in February.

It was feared at the time that Amad would not play again this season.

The Ivorian had become a key performer under Ruben Amorim, having been a fringe player for predecessor Erik ten Hag. Across 15 games form early November to mid-January, Amad contributed 15 combined goals and assists in the Premier League, Europa League and Carabao Cup.

But the 23-year-old hasn't played since 7 February when United beat Leicester City in the FA Cup.

However, after Amorim gave a positive update earlier this month, the club has now shared images of Amad building up his training load.

"He's doing quite well," Amorim had said to MUTV. "We hope to have him before the season is finished. We'll see, but he's anxious to play, so we are waiting for him."

Amad has filled two different roles for United since Amorim's arrival in November, utilised as both a wing-back and as one of the split 'number tens' in the Portuguese coach's tactical system.

United have struggled with injuries throughout the season, although there is hope that the crisis is easing. Mason Mount, a player tipped to thrive under Amorim, has made successive substitute appearances after months out with a hamstring issue, while Luke Shaw also returned to the bench for the Manchester derby last weekend.

Kobbie Mainoo is another on the cusp of a return, named in the travelling squad for Thursday night's Europa League clash with Lyon. But Amorim has stressed the need to continue being "careful".

Matthijs de Ligt, Ayden Heaven, Jonny Evans and Toby Collyer are missing, with Lisandro Martinez not expected back from an ACL injury until next season.
