Manchester United have handed squad numbers to new signings Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui following their transfers from Bayern Munich.
The duo were confirmed as the Red Devils' newest players on Tuesday night, with both crediting former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag as part of their reasoning for making the switch to Old Trafford.
There is a possibility that De Ligt and Mazraoui could make their debuts on Friday night when United host Fulham in the Premier League's season opener, and the club have already confirmed their new squad numbers.
De Ligt will once again wear the number 4, which has been his favoured number across spells at Ajax, Juventus and then Bayern.
The number 4 was vacated this summer following Sofyan Amrabat's return to Fiorentina at the end of his loan spell. United are said to still be deliberating over a fresh move for the Moroccan midfielder having not triggered the buy option in the deal.
Prior to that, Phil Jones wore the number 4 for his 11-year stint at United, while it was previously donned by the likes of Owen Hargreaves and Juan Sebastian Veron.
Mazraoui, meanwhile, has been handed the number 3, which has been out of use since 2021 when its last occupant, Eric Bailly, left the club. Luke Shaw wore number 3 for his first season at United, with Patrice Evra and Phil Neville among the more notable occupants in years gone by.
United have now made four signings in the summer transfer window, with Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro arriving prior to De Ligt and Mazraoui.
They remain in the market for a midfielder and have held talks with Paris Saint-Germain over Manuel Ugarte. 90min understands free agent Adrien Rabiot would be interested in joining the Red Devils, who have a historic interest in the France international.
