Man Utd confirm Patrick Dorgu shirt number

Manchester United have confirmed that winter recruit Patrick Dorgu will wear the number 13 shirt for the Red Devils.

Dorgu's arrival was unveiled on Sunday morning after weeks of speculation surrounding the 20-year-old defender. United had been locked in extensive negotiations with Serie A strugglers Lecce regarding the exact transfer fee and eventually got their man for just under £30m.

The versatile wide man, who has been bought to afford Ruben Amorim a regular outlet at left wing-back, wasn't able to make his debut in Sunday's Premier League clash with Crystal Palace. However, he did appear on the Old Trafford turf pre-game alongside fellow newbie Ayden Heaven, to show off his number 13 shirt.

History of Man Utd's No13 shirt

13 has been unlucky for several Manchester United players over the years. Most recently held by third-choice goalkeeper Lee Grant between 2018 and 2022 - who made a grand total of two senior appearances - these digits have been traditionally reserved for United's custodians over the years.

Anders Lindegaard, Mark Bosnich and the calamity riddled Roy Carroll were all fleetingly spotted with this traditionally unlucky number on their back over the years.

South Korean midfielder Park Ji-sung is arguably the United player most closely associated with United's number 13. The cult hero made more than 200 appearances for the Red Devils over seven seasons exclusively decked out in 13. The tireless midfielder quickly became a favourite of legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson, tearing around the pitch with such relentless energy his was dubbed the 'Third Lung'.
