Manchester United are 'expecting offers' for right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer and could move to replace the former Crystal Palace man in the transfer market.

Wan-Bissaka arrived to much acclaim in 2019, billed as one of the best emerging defensive talents in English football after a breakout season with boyhood club Palace.

But while he was a regular under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose managerial tenure coincided with an effort to recruit young British players, a combination of injuries, loss of form and the resurgence of Diogo Dalot has made the now 26-year-old more of a squad player than a starter.

United triggered an option in Wan-Bissaka's contract in January to push its expiry until 2025 and prevent him from leaving as a free agent this summer. That has protected his transfer value to a degree and Sky Sports has reported that he would be let go for a 'suitable' bid.

There isn't a list of interested clubs, but a return to Palace has often been speculated in the past. It was once thought that United would use Wan-Bissaka as part of a proposed deal to entice Michael Olise to move to Old Trafford - before he made the switch to Bayern Munich.

Selling Wan-Bissaka would allow for a replacement. In the event that happens, United are believed to have considered a number of options – Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong and Monaco's Vanderson among them.

One of the criticisms of Wan-Bissaka over the years has been a lack of attacking output. That is where Frimpong, in particular, excels. The Dutchman racked up nine goals and as many assists in 31 Bundesliga appearances as a wing-back in Xabi Alonso's championship-winning team and 90min revealed in early July that United and rivals Manchester City had joined Barcelona in pursuit of the player.

He also has a €40m (£33.7m) release clause that is set to expire this summer, encouraging clubs like United to move quickly to avoid paying considerable transfer fees.

Vanderson is a newer name in the frame. The 23-year-old Brazilian is a similar option as an attack-minded full-back and would likely be cheaper than Frimpong.
