Manchester United have confirmed Jonny Evans has signed a new one-year contract with the club.
The 36-year-old returned to United, where he came through the academy two decades ago, last summer initially to ramp up his fitness after his release from Leicester City. After signing a short-term deal to play in pre-season matches, he penned a contract for the rest of the 2023/24 season.
Evans made 30 appearances across his second stint at United, and he is in line to make further more after signing a fresh contract.
"I am delighted to have extended my contract at Manchester United for another season," Evans told club channels. “To play for this great club and feel the support from our incredible fans is always a privilege.
"Returning to the club last season was an honour; representing the team on the pitch alongside fantastic team-mates under an excellent manager.
"Winning the FA Cup together was an unforgettable experience; I know we can challenge for more trophies in the season ahead."
While Evans will stay at Old Trafford, United are in the market for a replacement for Raphael Varane, who decided to leave at the end of his contract and is in talks with Italian side Como.
United are in discussions with Bayern Munich over a deal for Matthijs de Ligt, while they have already seen two bids rejected by Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite.
The Red Devils are also closing in on the signing of Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.
