Manchester United have endured a miserable start to the new campaign and, much like last season, injuries have exacerbated the crisis at Old Trafford.

While Erik ten Hag can't use injuries as an excuse for his side's disjointed displays, the busy treatment room certainly doesn't make his job any easier. Defence and midfield have been particularly injury-hit at the beginning of 2024/25.

The October international break has provided respite for Ten Hag under increasing pressure and has allowed some of his first-teamers a rare break. However, others have been globe-trotting over the past fortnight and will need to be assessed on their return to Manchester.

Here is all the latest Manchester United injury news.

Leny Yoro

  • Injury: Foot
  • Potential return date: November

United splashed a significant sum on Leny Yoro over the summer but the teenager is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Red Devils. A foot injury sustained during a pre-season friendly with Arsenal has left him sidelined for the entirety of the season thus far after undergoing surgery.

However, Yoro is making strides in his recovery and he could well make his return to the first-team squad in November. Initial reports suggested he would be sidelined for three months and there has been no evidence of any setbacks in his recovery.

Luke Shaw

  • Injury: Calf
  • Potential return date: Late October/early November

Luke Shaw has missed all of the 2024/25 season so far after being absent for large chunks of last campaign, too. The left-back hasn't been seen on the pitch since Euro 2024 but should make his comeback from a calf problem in the coming weeks.

The club's latest update is that he is making "steady progress" and returning straight after the October international break, as previously hoped, appears to have been overly optimistic.

  • Injury: Knee
  • Potential return date: Late October/early November

United fans haven't seen Tyrell Malacia in action since the 2022/23 season, with the Dutchman having spent last term recovering from knee surgery. Ten Hag made it clear he was still a few months away from action at the start of this term.

Several months have now passed and Malacia should be closing in on a return. He is taking part in certain bits of training and building fitness all the time.

Harry Maguire

  • Injury: Muscle
  • Potential return date: Ipswich Town (A) - 24/11/24

Harry Maguire had scored a late equaliser against Porto in the Europa League prior to his journey to Villa Park, but the centre-back's luck changed as he was withdrawn at half-time with a muscle injury during the subsequent goal-less draw with Aston Villa.

Speaking on Instagram, Maguire said: "Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend, will be a few weeks on the sidelines for me but I'll come back stronger."

United expect him to miss "a few weeks", which is likely to run into the November international break.

Noussair Mazraoui

  • Injury: Illness
  • Potential return date: 19/10/24 - Brentford (H)

Noussair Mazraoui had to withdraw from the Morocco squad over the October break to undergo corrective surgery after suffering heart palpitations. He was back in training on Thursday and could feature against Brentford, although starting the game may be too soon.

Manuel Ugarte

  • Injury: Calf
  • Potential return date: Brentford (H) - 19/10/24

Manuel Ugarte has had a difficult start to life in English football and it's unlikely to be helped by a suspected calf injury sustained on international duty. The midfielder was withdrawn in the 82nd minute of Uruguay's goalless draw with Ecuador on Tuesday night (locl time).

United don't seem too worried about the summer signing, though. He was involved in a recovery session after repoting back to Carrington on Thursday.

Mason Mount

  • Injury: Head
  • Potential return date: West Ham United (A) - 27/10/24

The injury curse continues for Mason Mount in 2024/25. Having already spent some time on the sidelines this season, the former Chelsea midfielder suffered a head injury in the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur which subsequently ruled him out of the trip to Villa Park.

Mount's recovery process continues, ruling him out of facing Brentford.

  • Injury: Muscle
  • Potential return date: Ipswich Town (A) - 24/11/24

Kobbie Mainoo was called up to the England squad for October but had to pull out after suffering what has now been confirmed as a muscle injury against Villa before the international break.

His England withdrawal was initially described as precautionary but United have now clarified that the teenage midfielder will miss "a few weeks" while he recover.

Amad Diallo

  • Injury: Illness
  • Potential return date: Brentford (H) - 19/10/24

Amad Diallo was an unused substitute in the draw with Villa before the international period and then joined up with Ivory Coast. However, he returned to Manchester after several days in Africa for "medical monitoring" due to illness.

The problem seems to have quickly passed, however, with the winger already back in full training.

Alejandro Garnacho

  • Injury: Knee
  • Potential return date: Brentford (H) - 19/10/24

Alejandro Garnacho was forced to withdraw from the Argentina squad over the October break due to a knee injury he was suffering with in clashes against Porto and Villa.

"I had knee problems in the last two matches, and I won't be able to be with the national team," said the youngster on Instagram. "But I hope to recover so I can be on the next date [in November]."

Like Amad, he was confirmed to be back in training with his United teammates on Thursday.
