Manchester United have been busy in the transfer market this summer and have now finalised their squad for the first half of the 2024/25 season.

Erik ten Hag's roster certainly looks stronger than it did last term and will be firmly put to the test by Liverpool's visit to Old Trafford this Sunday. A meeting of two football powerhouses and fierce rivals, Man Utd will be aiming to take their impressive 2023/24 record against the Reds into the new season.

While injuries continue to plague the Red Devils, Ten Hag has an array of talent to choose from for the battle with compatriot Arne Slot. Several of the club's summer signings are on course to play some part in this historic fixture over the weekend.

Here is how Man Utd could line up against Liverpool.

Harry Maguire

GK: Andre Onana - The Cameroonian hasn't put a foot wrong so far this season and impressed against Brighton with his long-range distribution. He's guaranteed to be much, much busier against Liverpool.

RB: Noussair Mazraoui - Two steady performances since his arrival from Bayern Munich will have been welcomed by Ten Hag, with injuries at full-back already causing issues for the Red Devils.

CB: Harry Maguire - Matthijs de Ligt is likely viewed as the long-term partner to Lisandro Martinez, with the injured Leny Yoro also one for the future. But for the here and now, Maguire is still a solid option and he's started both league games to date.

CB: Lisandro Martinez - The diminutive defender became a meme in the 7-0 defeat to Liverpool in 2022/23 but has made significant improvements to his game since then. His speed and ferocity will be key to dealing with the clever Diogo Jota.

LB: Diogo Dalot - Injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have pushed Dalot to left-back for the time being. He was one of United's strongest performers against Brighton and must deal with the relentless Mohamed Salah this time around.

DM: Casemiro - The Brazilian has shown glimpses of his former self at the beginning of the campaign, particularly in the opener against Fulham. Liverpool will be aiming to exploit his ageing legs, though.

DM: Kobbie Mainoo - The teenager scored an exquisite goal in this fixture's most recent iteration and proved a hero on derby day against Manchester City in last term's FA Cup final. He's already a clutch player for the Red Devils.

RW: Alejandro Garnacho - Amad Diallo may have scored against Brighton with a deflected effort but it wasn't his best outing. Garnacho has twice changed the game off the bench this term and must start this weekend.

AM: Bruno Fernandes - While he has tried his best as a false nine, Fernandes is clearly most comfortable in attacking midfield. If Liverpool field Ryan Gravenberch as their starting defensive midfielder, Man Utd's skipper could get some joy.

LW: Marcus Rashford - Rashford's early season form has been similar to his 2023/24 performances. A worrying sign, but he boasts an impressive goalscoring record against Liverpool with seven strikes in 18 matches.

ST: Joshua Zirkzee - Could Sunday offer Zirkzee his first start? He scored the winner on debut and bizarrely denied Man Utd a potential victory at Brighton and is the club's only natural centre-forward at present.
