Erik ten Hag has revealed Manchester United will assess the injuries suffered by Harry Maguire and Noussair Mazraoui during Sunday's goalless draw with Aston Villa.

The Red Devils managed to avoid defeat against the high-flying Villans and hit the bar through Bruno Fernandes, with no breakthrough arriving for either side.

Ten Hag boldly started Maguire and veteran Jonny Evans ahead of expected pairing Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt but was forced into a double change at half-time, with De Ligt and Victor Lindelof coming into the back four.

Speaking about the injuries post-match, the Dutchman said: "We have to take them off at half-time. Tomorrow we have to see what is the diagnosis on it.

"We have to assess this. I can't tell you now what the issue is. I know what the issue is but [I cannot say now] how good or bad it is. We have to see assess this tomorrow [Monday] and then we will bring you news."

United are already without some key players, with left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia still unavailable alongside Mason Mount and teenager Leny Yoro. Even with those absences, Ten Hag's side forced four saves out of Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez on Sunday, while Andre Onana was only needed once.

However, while the draw is a good result at a stadium as hostile as Villa Park usually is, United are 14th in the table after only two wins from seven matches, their worst start to a Premier League campaign ever.

Pressure has surrounded Ten Hag over the past week after a dismal 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur but he was defiant after the weekend's draw, insisting he remains aligned with the club's owners over his future and their ambitions.
