Christian Eriksen has admitted his future at Manchester United is out of his hands with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder signed for the Red Devils on a free transfer from Brentford in 2022 and has won the Carabao Cup and FA Cup in his two campaigns at Old Trafford under Erik ten Hag so far.

Injuries elsewhere in the team have opened up a regular starting spot for Eriksen at the start of the 2024/25 but, with previous speculation suggesting he could have left in the summer transfer window, Eriksen admitted before Thursday's Europa League clash with Fenerbahce he is still waiting for an update on his future.

He said: "It's not really up to me when my contract runs out, it's up to the club.

"I am enjoying it here. When the summer comes if the offer is there I will definitely take it seriously."

Shortly after his agent confirmed Eriksen was happy to stay at United back in September, it was claimed Real Betis made an attempt to sign the Denmark international on the final day of the summer window.

A return to former club Ajax was rumoured to be on the cards, while Belgian giants Anderlecht were considering a move, according to their chief executive for sport.

For now, Eriksen is getting game time with the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Casemiro and Mason Mount all struggling with injuries. With Bruno Fernandes suspended after getting sent off in United's last Europa League outing, the 32-year-old is likely to start when his side take on former boss Jose Mourinho and Fenerbahce on Thursday night.

Eriksen briefly played under the Portuguese coach during their time at Tottenham, though he soon forced a move to Inter in the 2020 January window after Mauricio Pochettino had been sacked.
