The funeral of Manchester United legend Denis Law took place in Manchester on Tuesday.

The former United striker died last month at the age of 84, prompting a huge outpouring of tributes from across the wider football world.

Law was honoured prior to kick-off at Old Trafford for the visit of Brighton & Hove Albion two days after his passing, with the club's usual Stone Roses walk-out music replaced by a sole bagpiper leading the teams from the tunnel, onto the pitch.

Further tributes were paid the following week when United fittingly hosted Scottish giants Rangers.

Law's friends and contemporaries, as well as those who succeeded him in a United shirt, and members of the current squad were in attendance at Manchester Cathedral as he was laid to rest.

Sir Alex Ferguson was close with his fellow Scot and paid homage to his glittering playing career. "Trying to place Denis in the pantheon of the great players is made easier by Pele," the former United boss recalled. "Pele was asked was there any British player who could play for the Brazil team. He said without equivocation, Denis Law. It was a fantastic tribute when you consider what a great player he was."

The likes of Alex Stepney, Bryan Robson, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney also represented the different eras of United players at the service, with Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire present as well. Chief executive Omar Berrada and head coach Ruben Amorim also went.

Earlier in the day, Law's funeral procession had passed in front of Old Trafford, allowing fans one last opportunity to say goodbye to one of the greatest players to ever play for the club.

Law, scorer of 237 United goals to sit behind only the late Sir Bobby Charlton and the aforementioned Rooney in the club’s all-time top scorer list, is already immortalised in statue form outside Old Trafford. The 'Trinity' statute pays homage to Law, Charlton and George Best, each of whom won the Ballon d’Or whilst playing for United during the 1960s under the legendary tenure of Sir Matt Busby.

Diana Law delivered a touching tribute to her late father with a nod to that iconic trio: "There is an Englishman, Irishman and Scotsman. I think of them all up there in heaven. Reunited smiling down. Maybe they have started a team already with Sir Matt as the manager."
