Manchester United have launched a late rival bid to sign Michael Olise, who has agreed to join Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace, a report has claimed.

Bayern emerged as Olise's preferred destination last month and talks ramped up over a move to the Allianz Arena. A transfer had been expected to be wrapped up with little fuss.

However, the deal has not yet been finalised, and Sky Sport Germany report that other interested clubs are looking to make a late swoop for the Frenchman.

United are the only named club that are looking to trump Bayern at this stage. It had been hoped that Olise would undergo his medical in Munich last week, but the Bundesliga giants still need to tie up a few loose ends with Crystal Palace before the move can proceed.

90min first reported back in February that INEOS had given the go-ahead for United to pursue Olise in the summer should other key decision-makers see fit. However, he fell down their list of targets as the club thought it would be wiser to strengthen in other areas first.

Coincidentally, one player who could join United is Matthijs de Ligt, with reports claiming talks have opened with Bayern over a potential €50m deal. He would be reunited with former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag should he make the move to Old Trafford.

But Bayern's deal for Olise is not 'in jeopardy' just yet. Should they sign Olise, the club's new setup - including head coach Vincent Kompany and sporting director Max Eberl - would like to play him on the right with a front four also consisting of Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane and Harry Kane. Bayern are also looking to sign Xavi Simons and Joao Palhinha to play in midfield behind their star quartet.
