Manchester United are willing to take Sofyan Amrabat back to Old Trafford on renegotiated terms, according to reports.

The Moroccan international spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan at the 13-time Premier League winners, with the deal agreed with Fiorentina including a £21.4m option to buy.

Amrabat served as a versatile understudy for United, playing in central midfield and also at left-back when the club were enduring the worst of an injury crisis, but he rarely threatened to become a regular fixture in the side.

The window for United to activate the purchase option has now passed, Fabrizio Romano reports, with the Red Devils opting against paying the previously agreed amount.

However, it's claimed United manager Erik ten Hag remains a big fan of Amrabat, and there's potential for the two clubs to negotiate a new deal that could bring the 27-year-old back to the Premier League.

Other clubs are said to be interested but are not named, suggesting Amrabat's Fiorentina career may be coming to an end no matter what.

A rejuvenated United have been active in the transfer window so far, bringing to life the plan of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS following their 27.7% stake investment.

Leny Yoro has joined from Lille, opting to join United rather than waiting a year to move to Real Madrid, and Joshua Zirkzee has also arrived from Bologna.

Further signings are expected, but Ten Hag did admit to Dutch newspaper AD Sportwereld that outgoings will be needed to fund United's business.

"That is also obvious (club needs to sell to raise funds)," he said. "But we want to have a strong squad, as strong as possible. I think at the moment the football leadership is very on the front foot. I think that’s what clubs like Manchester United should do.

"We’re very pleased we’ve done business — we have Yoro in, we have Zirkzee in — two high potential assets for the future. But when I say future, the future also starts today. The next game is always the most important, next season is always the most important."
