Arsenal pair Martin Odegaard and Declan Rice both revelled in the club's north London derby victory over Tottenham Hotspur, having each been forced to miss the game.

A second half set-piece goal from centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes decided the contest, in which the Gunners allowed Spurs to dominate the ball and have more attempts at goal.

Odegaard was ruled out through injury, having succumbed to an ankle problem while on duty with Norway during the international break, while Rice was serving a one-match ban due to the controversial red card he was shown during the recent clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Both players celebrated the win, which was a third successive victory for Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and kept Mikel Arteta's side within two points of Premier League leaders and reigning champions Manchester City, on social media.

Re-posting an image of Gabriel grabbing the badge, originally shared by Arsenal on Instagram, Odegaard added three heart emojis. Rice did similar but also said: "I love this team."

Arsenal will have Rice back on Thursday when they travel to Italy to face Atalanta for matchday one of the new league phase in this season's Champions League.

Odegaard remains a slight doubt, however. "We still have to want and see," was Arteta's assessment after the derby, suggesting there is a chance the Norwegian midfielder might not be available to play in that one either.

Bukayo Saka poses an additional injury concern, forced off in the closing stages against Spurs and replaced by teenage prodigy Ethan Nwaneri. "I don't know exactly what it is but he could not continue," said Arteta of Saka's situation.

After returning from Europe, Arsenal travel to Manchester to face City on 22 September.
