Erik ten Hag has confirmed Mason Mount will miss Manchester United's Europa League clash with Porto on Thursday due to another injury issue.
The 25-year-old was forced off late in the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur after suffering a head injury which he quickly confirmed on social media was "just a scratch".
Mount's social media post, which was accompanied by a smiling selfie just hours after the defeat, left a handful of United fans frustrated, and supporters have since been surprised by news that the midfielder also picked up a knock during the game.
"He had a head injury and picked up a knock so they are the two reasons why he's not available," Ten Hag told his pre-match press conference.
The severity of Mount's latest injury is not known. He recently returned from three games out with a hamstring issue, having missed a total of 31 games in his debut season following his £55m switch from Chelsea in the summer of 2023.
There is some good news for Ten Hag, however. Kobbie Mainoo has trained and travelled with the squad despite being forced off early against Tottenham, while centre-back Harry Maguire is also fit after sitting out the defeat with a knock of his own.
Ten Hag went on to discuss United's current state of mind following recent results, insisting his players are determined to put their disappointments behind them.
"As always when we are not winning, we are very disappointed and we are also mad; mad with ourselves and especially when you lose a game like Sunday," he said.
Also, when you had to play such a long time with 10 players and after the [Bruno Fernandes]red card is overturned that gives frustration because such a long time to play with 10 is of course never in your advantage and it had a real impact on the game but you have to deal with it. We are mad and from the madness we have to get motivation and go on to the next game.”
