Mikel Arteta has warned Liverpool that his Arsenal side are not giving up their fight in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool are sitting pretty at the top of the standings but Arsenal can move six points behind with victory over Brentford on Wednesday, although Liverpool will still have one game in hand.

While Arteta did not hide away from the fact that the title race is already out of their hands, he warned Liverpool that any slip-up will be punished by his determined Gunners outfit.

"I don't know [how hard it will be to catch Liverpool] and that doesn't depend on us," he said. "We have to continue to be like a hammer, be there every day, every day, every day.

"And, I mean, if somebody wins all the matches, congratulate him and let's go to the next season. But if they don't, which in history hasn't happened, we'll be there."

Having already come up short in the last two title races, Arteta admitted his Arsenal side must prove they have what it takes to go one step further and get their hands on the trophy when all is said and done.

"Well, we're going to have to prove it," he continued. "What we've proven already this season, and I'm sure of that, if that would have happened last season, by playing the amount of games that we played with ten men, all the injuries that we had in the squad, for sure we were in the position that we are today in the competitions. So the team has made another step.

"The team is evolving and is adapting to new circumstances. And now we have another one, which is more games with less players. So let's face it."
