Newcastle have spoken with Eddie Howe to discuss his future at the club after the Magpies boss was named as a potential successor to Gareth Southgate as England manager.

As revealed by The Telegraph, Newcastle were rocked by uncertainty after their boss was rumoured to be among the favourites to replace Three Lions boss Southgate, who announced his resignation after England's Euro 2024 heartbreak.

This, paired with Howe's public comments surrounding the appointment of sporting director Paul Mitchell and the departure of co-owner Amanda Staveley, shook up the club, who have confirmed they were not prepared for his frustrations to be made public.

The comments in question came on Friday, when Howe was asked for his opinion on the structure changes. He said: "There's absolutely no point in me saying I'm happy staying at Newcastle if the dynamic isn't right. I'm certainly not serving Newcastle well if I do that."

Newcastle wasted no time in resolving matters and instead initiated talks with Howe to 'clear the air'. During these talks, it was made clear that the Magpies boss would still have a say in recruitment and be involved in all major decisions despite changes to the management structure.

The report confirms that these talks proved positive and both parties were able to quash any disagreements. The new structure will see both Howe and Mitchell collaborate on decisions needed for the club, with performance director James Bunce also on hand to provide expertise.

Howe has long been linked with the England job and spoke on his dream to manage the national team in 2016, when he was in charge of Bournemouth.

He's believed to be one of the favourites to lead England in the future and could be at the helm when the Three Lions compete at the 2026 World Cup.
