Newcastle United are set to hold talks with winger Anthony Gordon over a potential contract extension amid interest in his services from Liverpool, a report has revealed.

The Liverpool-born winger enjoyed a sensational campaign with Newcastle last season, earning himself a spot in the England squad for Euro 2024 after racking up 11 goals and ten assists in the Premier League.

Initial talks were held between Liverpool and Newcastle over a move for Gordon earlier this summer as the Magpies scrambled to raise money before the PSR accounting deadline of June 30 but, after selling Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh for a combined £68m, there was no need to cash in on their star winger.

Now, to firmly bring an end to the uncertainty surrounding Gordon's future, The Athletic state Newcastle want to tie the 23-year-old down to a new contract.

Newcastle believe Gordon has earned a reward for his form and hope that talks over fresh terms will see the winger commit his future to the Magpies.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has publicly praised Gordon's behaviour this summer amid reports he had been left disappointed by the breakdown in talks with Liverpool, insisting the winger continues to give "absolutely everything" to Newcastle.

Rather than weaken their forward line, Newcastle are actually looking to strengthen this summer and have agreed a deal to sign striker Will Osula from Sheffield United.

The 20-year-old is expected to complete a £15m move - £10m initially plus £5m in add-ons - in the coming days and has been earmarked for a role in Howe's senior squad.

Liverpool, meanwhile, remain on the hunt for their first signing of the Arne Slot era.
