Paris Saint-Germain win 2023/24 Ligue 1 title
- PSG have won their 12th Ligue 1 title
- They have won the league with three games to spare thanks to Monaco dropping points on Sunday
- PSG have lost just one league game all season
Paris Saint-Germain have won their third-consecutive Ligue 1 title after AS Monaco dropped points against Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday.
PSG had squandered the chance to secure the title on Saturday evening against relegation-threatened Le Havre at the Parc des Princes - relying on a 95th minute equaliser from Goncalo Ramos in order to secure a dramatic 3-3 draw.
The draw with Le Havre meant that PSG had a 12 point lead over Monaco atop of the Ligue 1 table, with Adi Hutter's side having four games left to play.
One of those four games took place on Sunday evening when Monaco travelled to the in-form Olympique Lyonnais knowing that anything but a win would hand a record-extending 12th Ligue 1 title to PSG.
Monaco managed to take the lead inside the first minute of the game at the Groupama Stadium when star man Wissam Ben Yedder prodded home at the back post.
Two quick-fire goals would turn the game on its head soon after however. The first came from Alexandre Lacazette in the 23rd minute, and the next was netted by fellow ex-Premier League man Said Benrahma in the 26th.
The visitors did manage to equalise on the hour mark through Ben Yedder after a sustained period of pressure, but conceded once again in the 84th minute - youngster Malick Fofana got the goal - hand the title to PSG.
While not a banner year for PSG domestically, Luis Enrique's side have still managed to prove to be near unbeatable throughout the 2023/24 Ligue 1 season - losing just one game to OGC Nice way back in mid-September.
Along with their impressive form in France, PSG have also been fantastic on the continent and are currently gearing up for a UEFA Champions League semi-final clash with Borussia Dortmund in midweek.
