Pedri has revealed he is excited about Spain teammate Dani Olmo's switch to Barcelona as his transfer from RB Leipzig nears completion.

The Euro 2024 winner is expected to be announced as a new Barca player over the coming days after a deal worth at least €55m was agreed with Leipzig. It will see Olmo return to his former club having left in 2014 to play first-team football in Croatia with Dinamo Zagreb.

The 26-year-old quickly emerged as one of two major transfer targets this summer for the Catalan giants, though their pursuit of Nico Williams is proving trickier despite president Joan Laporta refusing to concede defeat.

In an X Q&A with The Residency, Pedri admitted he is excited by his compatriot's move after he impressed at Euro 2024, finishing the tournament as the joint top scorer with three goals.

He said: "I like that Dani Olmo has come to Barcelona, because we get along very well and he brings a lot to the table. We already saw that at the Euros."

However, he was less definitive on Williams making the switch from Athletic Club, adding: "I have no answer to that question. What is clear is that he would be a great signing for Barca. The Euros have shown what he is capable of."

Olmo made 25 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig last season, scoring eight goals and helping them finish fourth in the Bundesliga after winning the DFL-Supercup at the start of the campaign.

Barca hope their deal for the Spaniard can be wrapped up quickly enough so he can feature in the Joan Gamper Trophy clash with Monaco on Monday night. Hansi Flick's side then visit Valencia for their first La Liga game of the season as they plot to dethrone current champions Real Madrid.
