Pep Guardiola signs new Man City contract

Manchester City have confirmed manager Pep Guardiola has signed a new contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Guardiola had been approaching the final six months of his initial deal and sparked fears of an imminent exit back in May when he admitted he was "closer to leaving than staying".

Talk of an exit was fuelled further by the departure of sporting director and close friend Txiki Begiristain, who will step down in the summer. Many assumed Guardiola would follow suit, but an interview a few weeks later saw Guardiola hint at an extension.

Fresh terms were agreed earlier this week and City have now confirmed Guardiola has put pen to paper on a new two-year extension. In his own words, he is "not moving".

Guardiola's new contract will take the boss to more than ten years of service with City.

He will now prepare to work alongside incoming sporting director Hugo Viana. The Sporting CP chief will formally begin work at the end of the season but is expected to work alongside Begiristain in the final months of the campaign to ensure a smooth transition.

City have won six Premier League titles under Guardiola and finally got their hands on the Champions League trophy in 2023, adding to their numerous triumphs in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Community Shield.
