10 Young Players Man City Could Be Set to Sign as Part of New Transfer Strategy
By Tom Gott
Manchester City have been snapping up young talent from all over the globe recently, and they show no signs of slowing down just yet.
Yan Couto and Kluiverth Aguilar have both sealed switches to the Etihad Stadium, and about a bazillion other youngsters have been tipped to follow suit. There'll be no teenagers left if City have their way.
Here are ten youngsters who have been linked with a move to City.
Sontje Hansen
The Golden Boot winner at the 2019 Under-17 World Cup, Ajax forward Sontje Hansen has already made his debut for the senior side and has been predicted to enjoy a lengthy career at the top level. Enter City.
With Father Time slowly but surely catching up with Sergio Agüero, 18-year-old Hansen has been touted as a potential heir to the Argentine's throne.
Thiago Almada
If you've ever played Football Manager, you'll know all about Vélez Sarsfield starlet Thiago Almada. City's scouts have obviously been playing the game during lockdown as they have been tipped to rival Manchester United for his signature.
The tricky 19-year-old has been linked to City for what feels like an eternity, and a deal was even rumoured to be completed last summer, but here we are again. The rumour mill never sleeps.
Facundo Pellistri
Heading over to Uruguay now and we've got 18-year-old winger Facundo Pellistri, who appears to have played his way on to City's radar thanks to his impressive performances with Peñarol.
Real Madrid have also been named as potential suitors, while soon-to-be moneybags Newcastle United are thought to be in the race, but City are said to be leading the chase for Pellistri's signature.
Kristoffer Ajer
Easily the most well-known name on this list, Celtic centre-back Kristoffer Ajer has been hugely impressive during his four years in Scotland, and a source has confirmed to 90min that City are one of several sides who have been following his development closely.
Leicester City are hopeful of using Brendan Rodgers' links to Celtic to win the race for his signature, but Pep Guardiola can be a convincing man when he sets his sights on a target.
Bruno Fuchs
Next up on City's radar is 21-year-old Brazilian centre-back Bruno Fuchs, who currently plays his football with Internacional.
Globo Esporte state that City officials have been following Fuchs' performance for Brazil's youth sides this year, although they face serious competition from AC Milan and Monaco for the towering defender's signature.
Josh Adam
The Scottish Sun are confident enough to state that City have already struck a deal to sign 16-year-old Celtic midfielder Josh Adam, having seemingly fought off competition from the rest of the Premier League's elite to get a deal over the line.
Touted as 'one of the best youngsters in Scotland', Adam is expected to join up with the Citizens' academy this summer.
Vinícius Tobias
Unfortunately for City fans, this isn't Real Madrid starlet Vinícius Júnior, but rather Internacional starlet Vinícius Tobias, a tricky 16-year-old right-back who is billed as one of Brazil's brightest stars at his age group.
That's the belief of TuttoMercatoWeb, who believe that City, United and Real Madrid are all keeping a close eye on Vinícius, who wouldn't actually be able to make the move to Europe until he turns 18 anyway.
Edouard Michut
Paris Saint-Germain academy stars always seem to be the subject of transfer rumours. It's almost like young players don't like seeing the club spend billions on ready-made first-teamers who can block their path.
Sky Sports News state that City are one of several sides keeping an eye on 17-year-old Edouard Michut, who has been compared to both Andrés Iniesta and Marco Verratti and even given the nickname 'The Next Lionel Messi', despite being a central midfielder. You gotta love the gossip.
Pedri
Spanish starlet Pedri has already inked a deal to join Barcelona on 1 July, but that hasn't stopped rumours of a second transfer swirling around.
El Desmarque carried quotes from a director at Las Palmas, Pedri's current club, who told Las Provincias that City remain interested in the 17-year-old alongside Bayern Munich and pretty much the rest of Spain.
It's not happening, but it makes for an intriguing story.
Georgios Vagiannidis
Greek right-back Georgios Vagiannidis has been in City's sights since December 2019, when Sportime first revealed that a club scout had travelled to watch the 18-year-old Panathinaikos defender in action.
Things went pretty quiet, allowing Inter to steal a march in the race for his signature, but a deal is not done yet. SportDog (an outstanding name) believe that City are still sniffing around and a cut-price deal could well be sealed this summer.
