2023/24 Champions League Group F: Fixtures, results and how to watch
- Newcastle were dumped out of Europe after winning just once in the group stage
- Borussia Dortmund and PSG progressed to the last 16
- Milan secured third spot and a Europa League place
Newcastle United made their long-awaited return to Champions League football in a glittering Group F which also contained Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.
Unfortunately for the Magpies, they fell short in their bid to qualify for the knockout rounds, ultimately finishing dead last in the 'Group of Death'. They did themselves justice throughout a challenging group stage, but their defeat to Milan at St James' Park in their final match condemned them to a European exit.
For Dortmund, it was a wonderful campaign, finishing in top spot after losing just once to PSG in the opening game. Meanwhile, the French champions were slightly fortunate to progress to the last 16, finishing second thanks to a controversial late penalty against Newcastle on Matchday 5.
Milan did manage to secure third place and a Europa League spot despite making a poor start to their group stage, with a dramatic 2-1 victory on Tyneside in their final match ensuring they will drop into Europe's secondary competition.

Who has reached the 2023/24 Champions League last 16 from Group C?
Borussia Dortmund - Group F winners
Despite being drawn into an incredibly challenging group, Dortmund secured their spot in the last 16 on Matchday 5 with their 3-1 victory over Milan.
After an opening game defeat to PSG, Edin Terzic's side went on to win three and draw two of their remaining matches, including back-to-back victories against Newcastle.
Potential last 16 opponents
- Kobenhavn (Group A)
- PSV Eindhoven (Group B)
- Napoli (Group C)
- Inter (Group D)
- Lazio (Group E)
- Porto (Group H)
Paris Saint-Germain - Group F runners-up
It was far from convincing for PSG in this year's group stage, the Ligue 1 champions only managing a second-placed finish and a nervy Matchday 6 that could have seen them drop into the Europa League.
After only picking up a draw in Dortmund in their final game, they would have been dumped out of the Champions League had Newcastle beat Milan in the other group stage game.
Potential last 16 opponents
- Bayern Munich (Group A)
- Arsenal (Group B)
- Real Madrid (Group C)
- Real Sociedad (Group D)
- Atletico Madrid (Group E)
- Manchester City (Group G)
- Barcelona (Group H)
Milan - Europa League knockout round play-off
Milan needed to win at Newcastle in their final group game to ensure a spot in Europe come next February and that's exactly what they did thanks to Samuel Chukwueze's late strike.
Unfortunately for the Italians, it wasn't enough to make the Champions League knockouts, but they will feature in the Europa League after their third-placed finish.
Newcastle - Out of Europe
While Newcastle will always have that epic 4-1 victory over PSG to reminisce about, their return to the Champions League ultimately fell flat.
Eddie Howe's side had to compete with a mountain of injuries, some VAR controversy and a deadly group, but they did themselves proud, even if they won't play European football again this season.
