3 players Man Utd now need to move on after Jadon Sancho exit
- Sancho returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan after falling out with Erik ten Hag
- INEOS' arrival at Old Trafford set to bring about personnel changes
- More high-profile exits expeceted as United prepare to usher in new era
The impending arrival of INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe at Manchester United is set to facilitate a major reshuffle at Old Trafford.
Ratcliffe's investment will become officially official in February, although groundwork is bound to be laid between now and the January transfer deadline in regards to personnel switches.
While nothing drastic is set to occur on both the incomings and outgoings front, there are a couple of United players on the chopping block this winter.
The Red Devils got the ball rolling by allowing Jadon Sancho to reunite with Borussia Dortmund, and there are more players who could earn moves away before the end of the month. Here's 90min's picks for who should be heading for the exit door...
1. Casemiro
After trying and failing to secure the services of yet another former Ajax star in Frenkie de Jong, Man Utd turned to Real Madrid stalwart Casemiro at the end of the 2022 summer window to mitigate their holding midfield woes.
While there was an element of panic about the move, the Brazilian's impact in Manchester was immediate.
Casemiro played a starring role in United's promising 2022/23 campaign which returned a Carabao Cup. The idea of selling the midfielder ahead of 2023/24 wouldn't have been fathomable, but it's now a distinct possibility given just how drastically Casemiro's form fell off a cliff.
The start to his second season at Old Trafford was dire, and his campaign was then interrupted in October by a rather significant injury. While his return is imminent, there's little to suggest United would prevent his exit should a proposal arrive from Saudi Arabia or elsewhere.
While United certainly haven't found a solution in Casemiro's absence, Kobbie Mainoo's emergence means the declining Brazilian is worth ditching in exchange for getting some cash back.
2. Facundo Pellistri
Pellistri's time at United has so far been totally forgettable, The winger has failed to score in 24 senior appearances for the club since joining from Penarol in 2021.
The Uruguayan international has often appeared comfortably off the pace during his 13 Premier League outings and currently isn't up to the requisite level.
There have been rumours of a loan move away this month with La Liga strugglers Granada currently leading the race for his signature. While Pellistri is only 22, it wouldn't be a surprise if he's already played his last game in a United shirt - even if his exit in January is only a temporary one.
3. Anthony Martial
Martial is still clinging on to the hope that he can succeed at United.
The Frenchman isn't expected to sign a new deal with the club, but he's also reluctant to leave Old Trafford in January. A Saudi transfer isn't believed to appeal, with Martial keen to remain in Europe when he eventually leaves the Theatre of Dreams.
While the club could simply wait until the summer and allow him to depart on a Bosman, they should also welcome any offers from desperate clubs in need of a 'forward' towards the end of the January window. West Ham have tenuously been linked so far.
Even if Martial exits on loan for the remainder of 2023/24 and leaves in the summer... who cares? The Frenchman has hardly been contributing to Ten Hag's side this season. Perhaps they could get a club to pay a portion of his salary up until the end of the campaign.
