Thomas Meunier Poised to Leave PSG Amid Borussia Dortmund Agreement Claim

Thomas Meunier looks to be edging closer to a move to Borussia Dortmund, amid claims that he's agreed to leave Paris Saint-Germain when his contract expires.

The Belgian international, who has been with the French champions since 2016, is in the final year of his contract in Paris, and will be free to leave for Dortmund, who PSG defeated on Wednesday in the Champions League Round of 16, in the upcoming transfer window.

Former PSG winger Jérôme Rothen confirmed to RMC that the Bundesliga is likely to be Meunier’s next destination, with contact having been made between Dortmund and PSG.

Responding to journalist Daniel Riolo’s assessment that Meunier’s head was not with PSG because he had 'almost' signed with Dortmund, Rothen confirmed the news of the Belgian’s move.

“It isn’t almost, he has signed for Dortmund,” said Rothen. “I can tell you that information for certain.”

Meunier had previously confirmed (via HLN) that he came close to joining Premier League side Everton in 2019, but was put off by the Toffees’ lack of European football.

The full-back is just one of a number of PSG players set to leave the Parc des Princes over the summer, with Thiago Silva, Edinson Cavani and Layvin Kurzawa all in the last year of their respective deals.

It could be a busy summer for the Ligue 1 leaders, who will be bracing themselves for interest in their two star forwards. Neymar is once again being coveted by his old club Barcelona, while the gossip surrounding Kylian Mbappé and a possible transfer to Real Madrid refuses to go away.

Les Parisiens also have a decision to make on the future of striker Mauro Icardi, whose one-year loan deal at the club can be made permanent with the activation of a €70m option to buy. The Argentine may need to be persuaded to seal the deal, though, with the former ​Inter captain thought to prefer a return to Italy.
