Marcus Rashford Working With Charity FareShare to Help Feed Underprivileged Children in Manchester
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is working with charity FareShare to help feed children in the Manchester area after schools were closed.
Hundreds of thousands of children across the country have had their only guaranteed daily meal pulled out from underneath them as a result of the coronavirus-enforced closures, with schools not expected to reopen until Autumn.
It's sparked a nation-wide movement to provide help where possible, and both Manchester clubs joined forces to help raise funds to feed 400,000 kids across the city.
Rashford is doing his bit too, and speaking to BBC Breakfast about his work with FareShare, he said: "I am just trying to impact the next generation in a positive way," he said.
"I have done a lot of work with children and when I heard about the schools shutting down, I knew some kids would not be getting free meals at school.
"When I was at school, I was on free meals and my mum wouldn't get home until around six o'clock so my next meal would have been about eight o'clock.
"I was fortunate, and there are kids in much more difficult situations that don't get their meals at home."
Football is on pause at the moment due to the pandemic, but players are still working hard for when the season resumes, with the United star in particular fighting a back injury to get back onto the pitch.
And there's some positive news on that front, as a Man Utd statement reads: "The club can confirm that Marcus Rashford has been cleared to step up his rehabilitation programme following encouraging signs on his latest scans.
"His progress will continue to be monitored by the club’s medical team throughout the current lockdown period.
Rashford added: “I feel much better. Definitely, comparing it to two or three weeks ago, I feel 10 times better.
“For me now, it is just about getting ready to build it back up to training and playing the games with the team. I am in a much better place. I am much happier now than I was about a month ago, so things are looking positive.”
